Biometric Passports (ePassports)

The Embassy of the Czech Republic requires all applicants to register prior to visiting the office. Appointment can be made via email:
consulate_abudhabi@mzv.cz

Check if you have all necessary documents to apply for passport.

Summary of the rules governing the procedure for ePassport:

Applicants must apply in person (no applications by post or powers of attorney). There are no exceptions to this rule.

Applicants must collect their passports from the same office where they applied. This means that a person who is applying for a new, regular passport must make two personal visits to the same embassy/consulate.

It is no longer possible to apply for the Certificate of Czech Citizenship and a passport simultaneously. Passport application will be accepted only upon submitting an already issued and valid proof of citizenship.

The period of validity of ePassports is 10 years for persons older than 15 years, and 5 years for minors of under 15 years of age.

Legal guardians (in most cases parents) of minors of under 15 years of age must apply on behalf of these minors. Minors between 15 and 18 years of age must submit a written consent of a legal guardian with an authenticated signature. The authentication of this signature is not required when the legal guardian comes in person and approves of the application by signing the application form.

Requirements:

When applying for a new passport, applicants must:

  1. appear in person
  2. pay the consular fee
  3. submit the following documents:
  • proof of identity (travel document, "občanský průkaz" etc.);
  • proof of Czech citizenship (valid travel document, valid "občanský průkaz" , Certificate of Czech Citizenship not older than 12 months);
  • proof of first and last name (travel document, "občanský průkaz" or any document issued by the registry office);
  • piece of passport photo.  Applicant must provide a picture meeting the following standards;
  • previously issued Czech or Czechoslovak travel document;
  • landing permit in Canada (Permanent Resident Card, Long-Term Visa) or Certificate of Canadian citizenship;
  • official document containing the birth number of the applicant (birth certificate, travel document, "občanský průkaz" etc.);
  • document confirming new information if reason for application is a change of applicant 's personal information (for example a marriage license).

Additional very important information:

The new photo requirements are based on the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, an agency of the United Nations, whose aim is to standardize passport photos and improve the verification of passport holders 'identities. A rather strict set of rules can sometimes result in a need to repeat the application procedure due to the fact that submitted photographs do not meet the prescribed requirements. In these cases, a new photograph must be submitted.

Processing time:

We provide a same-day service when it comes to the application process. In most cases, delivery of new travel documents takes between four weeks to six weeks, as passports are produced in the Czech Republic and subsequently sent via diplomatic mail. However, the legal issuance period is 4 months and we cannot guarantee that the passport will be issued and delivered to Canada sooner than that.
