European Film Festival Brings a Czech Film to Yangon

During European Film Festival, a Czech Film Pelíšky (Cosy Dens) will be screened in Yangon twice - in  Goethe Villa and in Nay Pyi Taw Cinema.

The Czech Embassy would like to invite you to screening of the film Pelíšky (Cosy Dens, 1999, directed by Jan Hřebejk), that will be shown in two venues:

29 September 2018 at 16:00 at Goethe Villa (Kabar Aye Pagoda Road, Corner Nat Mauk Road)

30 September 2018 at 15:30 at Nay Pyi Taw Cinema (204-248 Sule Pagoda Road)

This gently comedic story takes place in the suburbs of Prague in 1967 during the Christmas period. Two families – the Sebeks and Kraus's – are living together in an old villa. Teenager Michal Sebek has a crush on the girl upstairs Jindriska Krausová who is already in a relationship. Their fathers have a dispute which turns into an ideological controversy; Mr. Sebek has a strong belief in the communist system meanwhile his neighbour Mr. Kraus, who is a war veteran and a true patriot, supports the resistance. As the fathers are stuck squabbling over ideologies, their children are more interested in modern music and clothes from the West. As if this wasn’t painful enough a marriage between the families forces the two rivals to come even closer together.

A historical movie about the time leading up to the Prague Spring which took place 50 years ago. Hřebejk succeeds in instilling good humour into this thought-provoking drama which ridicules both the communist and the ardent anti-communist.

The film will be shown in original language with English subtitles.
