As a part of the celebrations of this year's Czech/Czechoslovak anniversaries, the Czech Food Fest in Yangon was officially inaugurated at Sule Shangri-la hotel on 26 November 2018 under the name "Czech A-Sar-A-Sa".
Culinary diplomacy is a very popular form of presentation in the local context because of the importance of food in Myanmar people’s life and it was no exception in our case. The chef, Mr. Jiří Vaněček, invited from our head office in Prague, used both imported and local resources to conjure a wide range of delicacies that were really mouth-watering to local participants as well as to the representatives of diplomatic corps and the Czech fellow countrymen (who probably enjoyed the food fest the most).
As for the drinks, there were of course available Pilsner Urquell beer, Moravian wines and even the famous liqueur Becherovka from Karlovy Vary. The guest of honour at the opening ceremony was the Speaker of Yangon Region Parliament, and since the Myanmar people are very proud of their own cuisine, a praise from him sounded twice as good.
During the event, about sixty samples of the Czech music were played, a selection of popular songs starting by hits from the 1960s and ending by some hard rock pieces from the 2000s.
For the ones unable to attend the festive evening, there is still a chance to taste the Czech gooddies. Chef Vaněček will stay and cook at Sule Shangri-la until Friday, November 30.
