The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Yangon organized a workshop called “Applying project management principles in formulation of project proposals“. The event was held in Yangon on 25th and 26th June 2020 and attended by 14 participants from NGOs as well as companies considering participation in development cooperation programmes for the private sector. The aim of the workshop was to increase the participants’ knowledge of project proposal preparation process, including methods for transparent identification of development and humanitarian needs of potential aid.
The two-day workshop took place in Downtown Yangon in the premises of the Institute of Management Consultants Myanmar. The programme of the first day was focussed on fundamental ideas and policies behind the development cooperation, such as the 2030 Agenda, the European Consensus on Development and the Development Cooperation Strategy of the Czech Republic 2018-2030. The participants were introduced to Sustainable Development Goals and principles of ownership and participation of recipient community in development activities. Thus, they better understood the language of international development cooperation community and learnt how to use it for formulation of their own plans and projects.
The second day of the Czech workshop was about practical aspects of project proposal formulation. The participants learnt general principles of development needs identification, including methods for consulting such needs with a recipient community. They also learnt about principles of relevance, efficiency and sustainability of development activities and how to demonstrate their compliance to such principles in a project proposal form. They were also introduced to Czech Development Cooperation Programmes, through which they can ask for a direct or indirect (in cooperation with a Czech partner) support for their projects.
Last part of the workshop was a practical proposal writing exercise. The participants were tasked to formulate a description of a real development problem and an intervention as required by the Small Scale Project Identification Form. They presented their work to other participants and discussed with them about it.
The Czech Embassy in Yangon organised the workshop for the second consecutive year, while doubling the number of participants. We received very positive feedbacks from the attendants.
