Embassy Series Presents "A Tribute to Ukraine"

The Embassy Series will present a special tribute to Ukraine on December 3, 2024, at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6 pm) at the Czech Embassy. The program will feature music by Czech composers Martinů and Dvořák, as well as Ukrainian composers Fedir Yakymenko and Myroslav Skoryk. Join us for an evening with talented musicians coming together for this special tribute!

Artists featured include Solomiya Ivakhiv (violin) and Melvin Chen (piano), as well as the Embassy Series String Quartet: Irina Rostomashvilli (violin), Hsiang-Hsin Ching (viola), Jacques-Pierre Malan (cello), Dan Weiser (piano) and Jerome Barry (baritone).

FEATURED ARTIST
Ukrainian born violinist Solomiza Ivakhiv (violin) is a highly celebrated soloist, chamber musician and educator. Named one of the “major artists of our time” (Fanfare Magazine), she has made solo appearances with major orchestras in the United States, China, Turkey and Ukraine, and has performed at world-renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, CBC Glenn Gould Studio, Philharmonic Hall in Kyiv, and the Concertgebouw. She has been featured at chamber music festivals worldwide, from Tanglewood and Ottawa Chamberfest to Newport and Nevada Chamber Music Festivals and many in between. Dr. Ivakhiv’s discography includes Ukrainian Masters and Ukraine: Journey to Freedom (both on NAXOS), Mendelssohn Concertos (Brilliant Classics), and Haydn and Hummel Concertos and Poems and Rhapsodies (both on Centaur). Her recordings have been featured on streaming playlists, radio stations and broadcast networks around the globe.

EMBASSY SERIES QUARTET
As the first Quartet in Residence of the Embassy Series in Washington, D.C, The Embassy Series String Quartet is devoted to the highest level of music making through diplomacy. The Embassy Series String quartet vows to carry forward the legacy of the Embassy Series, founded by Jerome Barry, to “bring people from different cultures together through chamber music.” In addition to working with the Embassies in Washington, D.C., the Embassy String Quartet also serves as the Quartet in Residence at the esteemed Virtuosi@Grace Chamber Music Series in Kilmarnock, North Virginia. They have performed at the Academy Art Museum, for the Bloomberg Foundation, on the Chapel Concert Series, Vantage Concerts, Jesuits Columbiere Residence, and the Baltimore Union Square Concert Series. The Embassy Quartet's mission is to use music to promote understanding and respect between cultures, crossing barriers and building bridges between people from different countries. We curate programs that spotlight the unique cultural heritages of global nations by using the universal language of music as a conduit for peace and camaraderie amongst all human beings.
