An Auction at the Czech Embassy Supports Ukrainian Children Affected by War

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lithuania, together with the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Federation Global Initiative on Psychiatry, organized a charity auction to support the mental health of children and adolescents affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. The evening, held in commemoration of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, was marked by an atmosphere of solidarity. Thanks to the generosity of bidders from the diplomatic community and business sector, more than eight thousand euros were raised for the cause.

On the 20th of February, diplomats, business leaders, and prominent Lithuanian public figures gathered to acknowledge the profound impact of the war on one of the most vulnerable groups—children. The funds raised will go towards the reprint of the book томни куточки, which helps children and others cope with the trauma caused by the war.

Under the skilled guidance of Jack Twiss Quarles Van Ufford, the Ambassador of the Netherlands, who took on the role of auctioneer for the evening, 23 artworks were successfully auctioned, raising over eight thousand euros. Guests took home paintings by Lithuanian artist and former Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Ukraine Petras Vaitiekūnas, as well as unique ceramic bricks crafted by young Ukrainian artists from war-affected areas.

The event was formally opened by Czech Ambassador to Lithuania Aleš Opata, who, in his opening speech, emphasized Czechia’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine—now and in the future. The evening served as a reminder not only of Czechia’s long-standing support for Ukraine but also of the enduring solidarity of European partners with the embattled nation.
