NATO Contact Point Embassy: Hybrid Warfare – Challenges for today's militaries

Members of the Austrian Parliament, high-level officers and other distinguished guests met with Brigadier General Karel Řehka over an informal lunch hosted by the Czech Embassy that is acting as NATO Contact Point Embassy to Austria. BG Řehka is NATO Deputy Commander Multinational Division North East. He has also published a book on Information war.

The definition of War as clash of wills has not changed. Today, however, a continuous war within the information and cyberspace is key part of the security environment. Strategic Communication is no more a public relation domain but an integral part of (military) operations. Today´s armies need capabilities to run information operations at a tactical level. These and other statements engaged the Chairman of the Parliament´s Defence Committee Reinhard E. Bösch, high-ranking officers and other distinguished guests in a lively discussion over an informal lunch hosted by the NATO Contact Point Embassy on 13 February. Vulnerability to hybrid threats and need to foster resilience echoed in the debate.

The event matched perfectly to the flagship theme that the Czech/NATO Contact Point Embassy set for 2019 and that is “Resilience and hybrid threats”.
