The Czech Republic was elected Vice-president of the Bureau of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2019

The Czech Republic was elected as the new Vice-president of the Bureau of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF) for 2019. The President of the Bureau is Sudan. The other vice presidents are Bangladesh, Guatemala and Canada.

These five officers, each one representing one of the five regional groups, are elected by the Executive Board. A total of 36 countries are members of the UNICEF Executive Board and their meetings are open to all countries. The Bureau serves as a bridge between the UNICEF secretariat and the regional groups represented on the Executive Board, dealing primarily with liaison, administrative and functional matters, such as facilitating the negotiation of decisions at the session, to enhance the effectiveness of the Executive Board. Members of the Bureau coordinate informal consultations within their respective regional groups. The Bureau usually meets on a monthly basis, and daily during the Executive Board sessions.

The Executive Board meets three times a year. Its first meeting will take place on February 5-7, thereafter in June and September. The Czech Republic was a member of the Executive Board since 2017.
