The Czech Republic elected to the Human Rights Council

On 12 October 2018 at the meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Czech Republic was elected member of the Human Rights Council for the term 2019-2021 by a significant majority of votes. This result crowns the Czech diplomatic effort of several years and also represents a commitment for the continuation of the Czech human rights policy.

The Czech Republic will start its work as a member of the Council on 1 January 2019 (so far, it has already been actively participating in the work of the Council as an observer state). The Czech Republic aims to build on its previous memberships in the Council from 2011-2014 and 2006-2007 and continue to engage in the protection of human rights and democracy in the world, including situations of human rights violations. It will also actively participate in the efforts to strengthen the Human Rights Council and enhance its efficiency.
