Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, R. Vondráček, spoke at the HLPF and met with the UN Secretary-General

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr. R. Vondráček, visited New York on July 19, 2018 and spoke during the High-Level Segment on Sustainable Development (HLS) held under the Czech presidency of the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC). Speaker Vondráček also met with the UN Secretary-General, A. Guterres, and the President of the UN General Assembly, M. Lajčák.
During his speech at the ECOSOC HLS presided over by Ambassador M. Chatardová, Speaker Vondráček outlined the history of the Czech Republic and the UN ECOSOC commemorating the first vice-president of the Council, who was a Czech diplomat and Czech consul in Pittsburgh J. Papánek. R. Vondráček stressed the need to strengthen international dialogue at the UN and leadership by example, where he pointed out the fast development of the Czech Republic over the past 25 years.
On the same day, Speaker Vondráček met with the UN Secretary General A. Guterres. They spoke about the reforms of the UN system and current initiatives of the Secretary-General. Later on he also met with the President of the UN General Assembly M. Lajčák.
