Secretary-General Meets Bureau of ECOSOC

Secretary-General, António Guterres, met with the Bureau of ECOSOC on October 13, 2017 for the first time. Bureau of ECOSOC consists of Marie Chatardová, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the UN and President of the Council. At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Chatardová commended the efforts of Secretary General in the area of integration of three pillars (peace and security, development system and management) and promised her full support of her office. Ambassador sees the biggest opportunity in peace and security area in close cooperation with the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC). In other areas, she highlighted the efforts of including variety of new stakeholder in the ECOSOC deliberations. Participation of all is not only the centerpiece of the Czech presidency but also a crucial variable for successful implementation of Agenda 2030. At the end of her speech, she mentioned the special meeting of ECOSOC in May 2018 in New York and the high level preparatory conference in March 2018 in Prague. She has extended her invitation to Secretary General for both events.
