
President of the Economic and Social Council, Ambassador M. Chatardová, chaired the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development

M. Chatardová, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations and President of the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC), opened the ministerial segment of the Forum on Financing for Development (FfD) on April 23, 2018. Annual Forum on FfD assesses progress and identifies obstacles and challenges to the implementation of financing for development outcomes based on the 2015 Addis Ababa Action Agenda. The 2018 Forum took place in New York UN Headquarters between April 23 and April 26, 2018.
President of ECOSOC, Ambassador M. Chatardová opened this year’s Forum together with the President of the General Assembly, M. Lajcak. Secretary General, A. Guterres, welcomed the participants via video conference and was represented by Deputy Secretary-General, A. Mohammed. In her opening statement Ambassador Chatardová said that significant progress has been made but emphasized that to close the gaps more large-scale, long-term investments in the Sustainable Development Goals must be made.
This year’s Forum on Financing for Development was attended by a record number of delegations on ministerial level (35 delegations) and approved very balanced inter-governmental recommendations. The Forum was also attended by representatives of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, UN Conference on Trade and Development and other organizations.
