During her opening remarks, Ambassador Chatardová talked about ECOSOC as a vital organ of the United Nations providing a platform for all stakeholders, praising the active and innovative role that the governments and private sector have been taking in order to tackle pollution as a major threat to achieving the SDGs. She stressed that the participation of all stakeholders is vital to tackle this challenge and pledged the opened and collaborative nature of ECOSOC platform in this regard.

ECOSOC President subsequently met with many stakeholders including the Chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the UN Environment Program (UNEP), President of the Third Meeting of UNEA and Minister of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Director General of the UN office in Nairobi and also with the newly elected president of the upcoming Fourth Meeting of UNEA. Mrs. Chatardová also met with many representatives of regional groups, including the European Union, Group of 77, Group of Central and Eastern European States, Group of African States, Group of Latin American and Caribbean States and the Group of Asian and Pacific States.
