President of ECOSOC, Ambassador M. Chatardová opened the sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Ambassador M. Chatardová, President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) spoke during the opening segment of the sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women on March 12, 2018. Ambassador Chatardová gave her opening remarks alongside the UN Secretary General, A. Guterres, and the President of the UN General Assembly, M. Lajčák.

President of ECOSOC stressed the role of the Commission and its instrumental role in empowerment of women and the promotion of gender equality within the UN system. She further stated the critical input of the Commission feeding the work of ECOSOC in implementing the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Underscoring that gender equality and the empowerment of women are cross-cutting inclusivity issues, Ambassador Chatardová announced her intention to convene a special Council session in May aimed at building sustainable, inclusive and resilient societies.
