President of ECOSOC, Ambassador M. Chatardová, opened the ministerial segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

President of the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC), Ambassador M. Chatardová, opened the ministerial segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) on July 16, 2018. Overconsumption, responsible food and clothing habits were among the key themes of the opening day, where Mrs. Chatardová spoke alongside the President of the General Assembly, Mr. M. Lajčák, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mrs. A. Mohammed, and the Special Envoy on Youth, Ms. J. Wickramanayake.

During her speech, president Chatardová, emphasized that need to act on the Agenda 2030 is now and that all states need to stay committed to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the same vein for the next 12 years. She pointed out differences of achievements across different countries and across the goals emphasizing that policy makers need to include entire societies in their effort to achieve the goals. The HLPF and national voluntary reviews are one way of reaffirming our global commitment and include all members of society.
