President of ECOSOC addressed the Symposium on Energy (SDG 7)

The symposium was held on October 18-20th in Oslo, Norway and the main theme of the event was the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, which is “affordable and clean energy”. This symposium was organized in preparation for the upcoming High Level Political Forum (HLPF) that serves as a central platform within the United Nations system for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. President of ECOSOC, H.E. Marie Chatardová, opened the symposium with her statement. Other speakers included H.E. Tone Skogen, State Secretary in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Alexandra Bech Gjørv, CEO of research company SINTEF.
In her opening remarks, the president of ECOSOC mentioned that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement to achieve sustainable development. She emphasized that sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy can power prosperity. She also mentioned that the summary of discussions from this symposium will be used as an input for the HLPF review of the SDG 7.
