International conference on European smart and shared cities

Permanent representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in New York, M. Chatardová, together with minister for regional development and deputy prime minister of Slovakia opened an international conference on European smart and shared cities organized in Prague under the auspices of the Ministry of Regional Development on November 22-23, 2018. This gathering on the impacts of technology and sharing economies on city habitats was attended by representatives of world metropolitan areas, members of national governments and international organizations and speakers from nongovernmental sector.

Ambassador M. Chatardová in her opening speech noted that by 2050, there will be roughly 70% of world population living in large cities and commended the theme of the conference as very timely. She further elaborated on her experience with sustainable cities and artificial intelligence from her term as the president of the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC). Ambassador Chatardová also spoke about the main priority of the Czech ECOSOC presidency, which was about participation of all segments of society in achieving Agenda 2030.
