
First regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board

Executive Board of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) met at its First regular session of 2019 on February 5th and 6th under the leadership of the new bureau presided by Sudan. Czech Republic serves as one of the four vice-presidents until December 31, 2019.
The Executive Board remembered the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasized its seventy-year long tradition in helping children all over the world and deliberated mainly on making the organization more effective in terms of the current repositioning of the United Nations development system and aligning it with the sustainable development goals of the Agenda 2030. The Executive Board adopted 8 decisions during its session.
At the outset of the deliberation H.E. Mr. Miroslav Klíma, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic, delivered a national statement as one of the vice-presidents of the Executive Board. Mr. Klíma emphasized the role of the Czech Republic both in bilateral humanitarian and development assistance and in particular in cooperation with UNICEF, especially in South Sudan, Iraq, Syria and Niger. In 2019, the amount of 8 million dollars will be available for humanitarian assistance from the budget of the Czech Republic, representing a 1-million-dollar increase compared to the 2017 budget.
