
Disaster Risk Reduction in the Context of the 2030 Agenda

The Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, together with its Japanese and Thai counterparts, UNICEF and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), organized a side event on the margins of the annual session of the UNICEF Executive Board on June 14, 2017 entitled “Disaster Risk Reduction in the Context of the 2030 Agenda: Lessons and Experiences from the Implementation of the Sendai Framework”.
The attendees of this timely side event had a chance to hear from representatives of the Czech Republic, Thailand and Japan and their respective experiences with implementing strategies to mitigate the disaster risk and their implementation of the Sendai Framework adopted in 2015, especially when it comes to children. Experts on the subsequent panel discussion included representatives of both UNICEF and UNISDR and for the Czech Republic also Mrs. Iva Brejzová from the General Directorate of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic.
Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic, H.E. Mrs. Marie Chatardová, opened the session with her remarks clearly focused on the protection of children and young people and their role in spreading awareness of the disaster preparedness from the school system to the society in large.
