Czech UN Ambassador addressed the International Conference on Child Rights & Sight at Yale University

On October 24, 2015 the Czech Permanent Representative to the UN Ms Edita Hrdá addressed the 5th International Conference on Child Rights & Sight, which took place at Yale University and was hosted by international non-profit organization Distressed Children & Infants International.

The aim of the biennial Conference on Child Rights & Sight is to raise awareness of children’s rights and blindness prevention. It was a large international gathering that brought together ambassadors, non-profit leaders and academics from around the world to discuss promoting the rights and wellness of children, discuss current challenges and their possible solutions.

 

The statement of the Permanent Representative was about Implementation of Convention on the Rights of the Child from the Czech Republic perspective. Czech Republic is party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child for more than 20 years. Since its ratification the Czech Republic has been implementing different laws and law reforms that seek to further protect the rights of children. The main challenges identified in the process of  implementation that were introduced by the Permanent Representative included ensuring inclusive education of children, prohibition of violence against children, care of children and new phenomenon – the right to children’s participation.
