In cooperation with the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences and with support of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in New York held an informal discussion with general public on the work of its diplomats at the UN on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in beautiful spaces of the Bohemian National Hall.
Seven Czech diplomats, including the Deputy Permanent Representative and moderator of the evening, Mr. Jiří Ellinger, took the stage in the evening of May 17 in the Bohemian National Hall to explain to the general public the sometimes not so clear differences between the multilateral and bilateral diplomacy and to share their behind-the-curtain stories from the world’s largest intergovernmental organization. The auditorium was full of inquisitive minds from all walks of life and the friendly atmosphere of the event helped the Czech diplomats to shed the constraints of their professional lives and to share the factual and sometimes funny stories from their work at the UN. All presentations were accompanied by the selection of pictures to illustrate the rich and diverse nature of the work of Czech representatives in the UN.
The presentations aimed to introduce the general principles of the UN and the specifics of all Committees of the General Assembly. This introductory part was only an appetizer to the interactive discussion with the audience, where the people in the auditorium were free to ask any questions and the presenters in their areas of expertise answered to the best of their abilities. Light refreshments were served after the event, which provided another chance to visitor to chat with their favorite diplomat.
