Czech Rep. elected to the Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS and to the UN Statistical Com.

Czech Republic was elected to the Executive Board of the UN Development Fund, UN Population Fund and UN Office for Project Services (UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS) for the term from January 1, 2020 until December 31, 2022 and to the UN Statistical Commission for the term from January 1, 2020 until December 31, 2023. The election was held on May 7, 2019 as part of the UN Economic and Social Council session.

The Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS has 36 members elected for a three-year term based on the regional groups key. UNDP/UNFPA/UNPOS are all part of the UN Development System, which in accordance to their strategic plans are helping program countries with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially with eradication of poverty, equality and exclusion. As part of their activities, the agencies also enforce human rights and strengthening the social position of excluded groups, such as women, children and parts of the society, which are endangered by exclusion. The Executive Board provides intergovernmental support for the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS projects and oversees the agenda of these agencies as related to the program countries’ needs.

The Statistical Commission of the UN has 24 members elected for a four-year term based on the regional group key. It was founded in 1947 as the highest agency for the worldwide statistical system, which is concerned with setting international statistical standards, development of plans and methods and their application on national and international scale.
