Czech Republic addressed the UN Security Council in the Open Debate on sexual violence in conflict

On 15 May 2017 the Czech Republic participated in the open debate of the Security Council on sexual violence as tactic of war and terrorism, focusing particularly on patterns and trends identified in the annual Report of the Secretary General on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (S/2017/249).

The Czech National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security adopted early 2017 contains concrete tasks on combating sexual violence and other forms of violence against women and girls. The Czech Republic also set up a framework for training and programs for military and civilians personnel in order to prevent risky behavior together with the Ministry of Defense’s Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. The Czech Republic assured Security Council that remains absolutely committed to be engaged in seeking the necessity to strengthen the relevant UN and regional and national structures in their efforts to combat sexual violence.
