Amina J. Mohammed sworn in as UN Deputy Secretary-General

Former Minister of Environment of Nigeria, Amina J. Mohammed, was sworn in as UN Deputy Secretary-General on February 28, 2017. Mohammed will be tasked with reconfiguring the sustainable development agenda at the UN and overseeing the implementation of Agenda 2030.

Amina J. Mohammed was sworn in to the second highest position at the UN as the Deputy Secretary-General and will be predominantly responsible for integrated approach to implementation of Agenda 2030. Mohammed, who previously served as the Minister of Environment of Nigeria, was sworn in by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on February 28, 2017. During a short speech Mohammed emphasized an integrated approach of all UN agencies to reconfiguration of sustainable development agenda in order to successfully implement the ambitious Agenda 2030. Newly appointed Deputy SG sees sustainable development and inclusive dialogue as the best way to prevent conflicts and achieve universal peace.
