Ambassador Hynek Kmoníček Presented His Credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General

New York, 18 August 2026 – Ambassador Hynek Kmoníček presented his credentials to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. With this official act, he assumed the post of Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations. Ambassador Kmoníček returns to the post after years of extensive diplomatic experience. He previously served as the Czech Ambassador to the United Nations and presented his first credentials in that capacity in 2001.
During the ceremonial meeting, he emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the active role of the Czech Republic in addressing global challenges. He recalled that one of the main priorities of Czech diplomacy in the coming years will be preparing the Czech Republic’s candidacy for membership on the United Nations Security Council. The Secretary-General described the Czech Republic’s cooperation with the UN as exemplary and praised the pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
Hynek Kmoníček is one of the Czech Republic's most experienced diplomats. Throughout his career, he has served as Ambassador to the United States, Vietnam, Australia, and India. This year, he was selected to return to the Czech mission to the United Nations in New York.
