Ambassador Chatardová delivered a speech at the plenary meeting of UN General Assembly on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) on June 25, 2018

Ambassador Chatardová highlighted the role of the Czech Republic as a member of Group of Friends for R2P, which is responsible for the consistent implementation of all three pillars of according to the World Summit Outcome Document. She stressed the need for the Security Council to act effectively and consistently when faced with mass atrocity situations. She also emphasized the need to prioritize and significantly invest in the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
Finally, she recalled the candidacy of the Czech Republic to the Human Rights Council. She encouraged the preventive role of the Human Rights Council in accordance with its mandate and stressed the important role that Geneva-based institutions and mechanisms, such as the Universal Periodic Review and Special Procedures mandate holders, can play in preventing and responding to mass atrocity crimes, as well as the importance of regular UNSC briefings on mass atrocity situations by the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
