October 20, 2025, Prague – Deputy Speaker of the Senate Jitka Seitlová, accompanied by a delegation from the Committee on Regional Development, Public Administration and the Environment, led by Chairman Zbyněk Linhart, visited Mongolia from 11 to 19 October 2025.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, education, environment and innovation.
The delegation was invited by Ms. Khurelbaatar Bulgantuya, Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural (Mongolian Parliament). Czech entrepreneurs associated with the Czech Chamber of Commerce also joined the mission and, together with senators, participated in the Czech-Mongolian Business Forum.
“Mongolia is a vast country rich in natural resources. The people we met view the Czech Republic very positively, in light of our long-standing relations.
This year we are commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and it would be desirable to build on this history of intensive cooperation as broadly as possible.
Mongolia is a promising and developing country in East Asia, and our bilateral trade turnover has increased significantly in recent years.
Despite the great geographical distance between our countries, the Czech Republic is perceived as a trusted partner and, as we were told, their ‘third neighbouring country’,” said Deputy Speaker Jitka Seitlová.
In addition to Deputy Speaker Seitlová, the delegation included members of the Committee on Regional Development, Public Administration and the Environment – Chairman Zbyněk Linhart, Senators Eva Rajchmanová, Jarmila Smotlachová and Josef Bazala.
The delegation was hosted by Deputy Speaker Khurelbaatar Bulgantuya, who is temporarily acting in place of the recalled Speaker.
The senators also met with representatives of several ministries to discuss housing, urban planning and education, as well as with the chairs of three parliamentary committees – the Economic Affairs Committee, the Regional Development Committee and the Environment Committee.
They were also received by Mr. Jadamba Bat-Erdene, Chair of the Mongolia–Czech Republic Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The delegation officially opened the Czech-Mongolian Business Forum, aimed at connecting the business communities of both countries.
Senators further attended the launch of a new Czech water-treatment technology for tanneries, a sector of key importance to Mongolia’s economy.
The technology, supplied by a Czech company with extensive experience in the field, continues the tradition of cooperation that began in the 1960s, when Czechoslovakia built a leather processing factory in Ulaanbaatar — still today the largest shoe manufacturer in Mongolia.
Members of the delegation also met several of its employees who had studied footwear technology in the Czech Republic and are now proudly continuing the Czech shoemaking tradition.
The programme also included meetings with representatives of Mongolian universities, focusing on education, student exchanges and academic programmes.
The delegation met with more than thirty students currently studying the Czech language, interested in pursuing studies in IT, nuclear physics and mining disciplines in the Czech Republic.
Since 1990, over 30,000 Mongolian students have graduated from Czech universities, and these academic exchanges continue to foster mutual trade and joint business projects in Mongolia.
Discussions in Mongolia also focused on environmental cooperation, particularly the protection of endangered species of camels and bears, whose populations number only a few dozen individuals.
The Mongolian side also appreciated the long-term Czech Przewalski’s horse reintroduction project.
The follow-up scientific collaboration between universities will continue, especially in the areas of climate change, permafrost protection and sustainable pastoralism, which is of vital importance to Mongolia.
