Czech water management experts presented themselves in Mongolia

On 23 October 2017, under the auspices of the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism, at the Fresh Water Reserve and Nature Conservation Center, a seminar on the protection of water resources and forest management took place in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The main speakers were the Czech experts from the Forest Management Institute and the Vodni Zdroj a.s. company, which deals with the problem solutions in the removal of ecological burdens in the field of geology, hydrogeology, water and waste management, and who implemented in the past the Czech development cooperation project “Rehabilitation of nonfunctional water sources for the drinking water supply in Ulaanbaatar city”.
The presentation of Forest Management Institute was focused on the protection of forest stands and permafrost, as necessary requisite for the preservation of groundwater and the defense against soil erosion. Czech experts presented their successes with afforestation in Mongolia (realization of the development cooperation project “Development of forests and the gene pool of local forest tree ecotypes in Mongolia”) and expressed their interest in realizing other projects, either in their own or, for example, in cooperation with the German GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH).
The main topic of the presentation of Vodni Zdroj a.s. – a company which deals with the solution of problems in removing ecological burdens, geology, hydrogeology, water and waste management areas and that implemented the Czech development project "Rehabilitation of nonfunctional water sources for the drinking water supply in Ulaanbaatar city" in the past – was the fight against groundwater and river pollution, rehabilitation of water-wells, boreholes and pipelines, and, last but not least, flood protection. The company presented its successfully completed projects in Mongolia, Nepal, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina and mentioned the opportunities for further cooperation in the protection of water resources in Mongolia. She emphasized that these are opportunities that are compatible with the current needs report, respectively. a portfolio of investment opportunities developed by Mongolia's Water Resources and Management Agency. The company representative has highlighted that there are opportunities, those are compatible with the current needs assessment report and a portfolio of investment possibilities developed by Mongolia's Water Resources and Management Agency.
The event attracted various representatives from Mongolian media, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Ulaanbaatar City Emergency Management Office, Specialized Inspection Agency, National University of Mongolia, the German GIZ experts, the US Embassy, Embassy of Russian Federation, French Embassy and private sector.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Mongolia Mr. Jiří Brodský personally thanked Czech experts for the dissemination of the reputation of the Czech Republic in Mongolia during the next event. He noted that the forestry project and the drinking water supply to Ulaanbaatar project have good potential for continuance on commercial basis and that the Embassy of the Czech Republic will continue to support the participation of Czech companies in such tenders.
