Czech Cooking Class in Susaki, Kochi Prefecture

On February 7, 2026, a traditional Czech cuisine Cooking Class was held in Susaki, Kochi Prefecture. Like last year, the chef of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, Mr. Leoš Kastl, led the cooking course in Susaki and everyone involved was enthusiastic about the event.

Encouraged by the positive feedback from previous years, another Czech Cooking Class was held with the support of the city of Susaki, attended by Japanese fans of Czech gastronomy from the city of Susaki and its surrounding areas. The culinary experience was provided by the experienced chef Mr. Leoš Kastl, who worked in prestigious hotels in Prague and who has been the chef at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo since 2022. The chef and the Embassy interpreter, Ms. Nozomi Izawa, were warmly welcomed by the mayor of the city, Mr. Kosaku Kusunose, and other organizers of the event.

This year, the Susaki locals showed enormous interest in learning about Czech cuisine, with more than twice the number of participants signing up for the one-day cooking course. At the beginning of the course, they received tips and an introduction to Czech cuisine from the chef, and then participated in preparing the entire menu, which this time consisted of a starter - white fish with dill dip and herb oil, a main course - wild boar on red wine sauce with potato noodle dumplings “šulánky”, and for dessert, a classic “žemlovka”, also traditionally called "zemlbába", was baked with apple-rum sauce and vanilla ice cream.

The positive and warm feedback from the entire event assured us that we managed to further strengthen the excellent Czech-Japanese relations here. The embassy aims to repeat a similar scenario again.
