This year Prague and Kyoto are commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Prague–Kyoto partnership, which was established on 15 April 1996 by signing of the Partnership Declaration. Over the past three decades, the two cities have built strong ties based on shared culture, arts, academic cooperation and mutual support for citizens and institutions on both sides.
On this occasion the City of Kyoto welcomed a delegation from the Capital City of Prague led by the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague. The significant element of the visit was the confirmation of further cooperation through the signing of the Joint declaration, reaffirming the commitment of both cities to continue developing their partnership in a number of areas, including culture, education, heritage preservation, tourism, and institutional dialogue.
As part of the accompanying programme, the delegation and invited guests attended a performance featuring the traditional Czech puppet characters Spejbl and Hurvínek. The performance introduced an important element of Czech puppetry to Japanese audiences and highlighted cultural exchange as a natural and enduring component of Czech–Japanese relations. The presentation was met with a positive response from the audience, underscoring the ability of puppetry to reach across cultural contexts.
