Contact Point Embassy event: „NATO at a Crossroads - Key Takeaways from the Hague Summit"

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv and the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) on July 24, 2025 organized a conference on outcomes of NATO summit, which took place at the end of June in The Hague. A keynote speaker of the event, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, David Konecký addressed the conference participants along with Ambassador Aliza Bin-Noun, former Political Director of the  Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Brandon Friedman, Director of Research at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies of Tel Aviv University, Hadas Lorber, former Head of the Foreign Policy Division at the Israeli National Security Council, Galia Lavi, Deputy Director of the Diane & Guilford Glazer Israel-China Policy Center, Dr. Raz Zimmt, Director of the Iran and the Shiite Axis Research Program at INSS, and Lt. Colonel (res.) Daniel Rakov, Senior Researcher at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security.

Ambassador Konecký identified the key conclusions of the Hague summit as the approval of a plan to massively ramp up defense spending aimed at shifting the burden from the US to Europe, reaffirmation of the NATO commitment to collective defense, enduring commitments to provide support to Ukraine, and cooperation between member states in the defense industry, including prospective cooperation with Israeli defense technology manufacturers. The long-term threat posed by Russia to Euro-Atlantic security and the persistent threat of terrorism were identified as key challenges facing the Alliance. While the Hague Summit was held in the immediate aftermath of the Israeli and US strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities, developments in the Middle East did not dominate its agenda. In addition to issues related to the future of the Alliance and NATO's relationship with the Middle East, the conference participants also discussed the global impacts of geopolitical changes in the region.
