Contact Point Embassy conference: "Reflections on the Conflicts in the Middle East at the NATO Summit in Ankara"

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv and the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) organized on July 14 a conference aimed at the outcomes of the NATO Summit in Ankara. The Czech Deputy Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka, a keynote speaker at the event, in his speech stated that Israel, as a technologically advanced country whose expertise, innovation and operational experience significantly contribute to the collective security of the Alliance, is an indispensable partner of NATO. Israel´s capabilities in counter-terrorism, cyber defense and maritime security are particularly valued. Minister Macinka further emphasized that the international community must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and ensure the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The conference was also addressed by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to NATO David Konecký, representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Marshall Fund, Reichman University, Tel Aviv University, the Elrom Center for Air and Space Studies, and others. Ambassador Konecký mentioned that transatlantic relations are undergoing a transformation, which is characterised by strengthening capacities of European Allies (Stronger Europe in Stronger NATO) and their increased share for ensuring collective security. At the summit, the Allies also discussed industrial integration, strengthening the transatlantic defence industry, and issues related to maritime security, noting that regional instability is a strategic problem that goes well beyond the Middle East.
