The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Estonia regularly participates in the commemorative event organized by the Estonian Jewish Community by laying a wreath at the Kalevi-Liiva monument in remembrance of the first transport of Czechoslovak Jews from Terezín to Raasiku in Estonia. Beginning in 1942, a total of 1000 Jews were gradually transported to the area, of whom 800 were executed immediately upon arrival. Of the remaining people, only 45 citizens from Czechoslovakia survived the hardships of repeated transfers between various camps and lived to see the end of the war. Similarly, only a few dozen Polish and German citizens survived.

The main speeches at the ceremony were delivered by Eduard Klas, President of the Jewish Community of Estonia, Dan Koshelevich, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel and Anne-Li Reimaa, representing the Ministry of Culture. The Chief Rabbi of Estonia, Shmuel Kot, recited the memorial prayer.

This year’s commemoration ceremony in Kalevi-Liiva was attended by representatives of the Estonian Jewish community, representatives of the Estonian Ministries of Culture, Interior, and Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Embassies of Israel, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, as well as the representatives of Jõelähtme Parish. On behalf of the Czech Republic, Consular and Cultural Officer Alena Teznerová honored the memory of the victims of the Holocaust by laying a wreath in the Czech national colors.
