Visit of Czech Minister of Culture Daniel Herman

On 31st August and 1st September 2016 Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Daniel Herman together with the delegation from Ministry of Culture and National Museum of the Czech Republic visited Estonia. They met with Estonian Minister of Culture Indrek Saar, Deputy Minister Anne-Ly Reimaa, visited Jewish Museum, Estonian History Museum and laid wreath at the holocaust memorial in Kalevi-Liiva. Minister Herman together with Estonian Deputy Minister Anne-Ly Reimaa and Director General of Czech National Museum Michal Lukeš also opened the exhibition of Jan Palach in the Museum of Occupations.
During the two-day visit, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Daniel Herman, together with the delegation composed of Deputy Minister Patrik Košický, Director of the International Relations Department of Ministry of Culture Petr Hnízdo and Director General of National Museum of the Czech Republic, Michal Lukeš, met with Estonian Minister of Culture Indrek Saar and his deputy Anne-Ly Reimaa. They discussed possibilities of future cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture. Czech delegation also visited the Jewish Museum and met with the representatives of the Estonian Jewish community, headed by its chairwoman Alla Jakobson. At the Memorial in Kalevi-Liiva they laid wreaths to commemorate the Jewish victims, including 800 Czechoslovak citizens, who were killed at this place in 1942-1943. The delegation also visited the Estonian History Museum Great Guild Hall and met with the director Sirje Karis. At the end of this visit an official opening of the exhibition "Jan Palach" took place in Tallinn Museum of Occupations. During the opening Minister Daniel Herman and Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Estonia Richard Kadlčák gave the honourable mention to one of the winners of the Czech children’s art competition Lidice – to Ms. Elis Raud from Tartu Art School.
