„[...] artlike art holds that art is separate from life and everything else, while lifelike art holds that art is connected to life and everything else. In other words, there's art at the service of art, and art at the service of life.“ (Allan Kaprow)

PERFORM – OR NOT presents performances and „non-performances“ which in one way or another relate to the distinction between what grandfather of performance art Allan Kaprow called an „artlike“ and a „lifelike“ art. Even though Kaprow favored the latter, both are legitimate approaches how to create art. Simply put, the first advocates for the art sovereignty, for the artist's right to work independently of the big narratives of the current world, for the explorations of the art processes as such, for the right to play. The second, as important as the first, does not bother so much with the Art, with deffinitions and aesthetics, rather is more concerned with everydayness and more concrete issues of today. As Kaprow puts it: „[...] lifelike art makers' principal dialogue is not with art but with everything else […]. Indeed, it's never certain if an artist who creates avantgarde lifelike art is an artist.“
