Czech Researchers Strengthen Cybersecurity Cooperation with Taiwan: HITCON 2026

In August 2026, the Czech Economic and Cultural Office (CECO) with the support of CzechInvest, invited student researchers from Czech universities to attend the annual Hackers in Taiwan Conference (HITCON). This year, the key theme of the conference was When AI Acts: Hacking the Age of Agentic Systems.

We welcomed three outstanding researchers from Brno University of Technology, representing Security@FIT and Nes@FIT research groups. The researchers were nominated by their professors based on their academic and research successes and research interests.

As part of their visit to Taiwan, the researchers had the opportunity to visit a wide spectrum of Taiwanese universities, research institutions, and companies. Some of the highlights were visits to Panasonic Cybersecurity Lab, Taiwan AI Labs, TeamT5, National Institute for Cybersecurity, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, BaaS Innovation, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, amongst others. The researchers kicked off their stay with a series of professional meetings followed by intense two days of attending HITCON. They had the opportunity not only to introduce their research groups and present their own research, but also to gain important contacts and begin discussions regarding potential future cooperation between their research groups and universities and Taiwanese counterparts.

During the intense week, they discussed topics including AI security, integrity and forensic analysis of large language models, threat intelligence, cryptocurrency forensics, user deanonymization, cyber-physical systems and industrial control systems security, and digital forensics. During HITCON, apart from expert panel discussions, attendees had access to a variety of interactive activities including mini cyber range, village & community booths, CTF challenges, and an NFC battle.

While in the past, the focus was on bringing experienced professors and experts in the field to attend such events, this year, the Czech Economic and Cultural Office wanted to enable talented young professionals and student researchers to come to Taiwan and have the opportunity to meet one of the most booming and flourishing cybersecurity community and ecosystem in Asia. From participating in networking activities to presenting their research in front of leading Taiwanese firms, universities, and national institutions, the researchers gained a deeper understanding of the most recent trends and developments in the cybersecurity domain in Taiwan and Asia and discussed cooperation opportunities with a diverse set of stakeholders.

Visit to TeamT5

With Taiwan being at the centre of cybersecurity developments and one of the world’s top cybersecurity frontrunners, and with the Czech Republic representing a European cybersecurity excellence, the potential for collaboration is grand and should not be underestimated. We look forward to learning more about the outcomes of this visit in the future and are excited for future opportunities to facilitate connection between Czech and Taiwanese experts.
