Application process
Process of applying for a new Czech passport:
-
We kindly request clients to make appointments for passport applications in advance via email at sydney.consulate@mzv.gov.cz in which you always state the full name of the application, contact information (phone number) and the date, during our opening hours, when you are hoping to come to the Consulate General to lodge the passport application.
- The applicant needs to apply for a Czech passport in person at a Czech mission in Australia (Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra [only for applicants from ACT] or Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney)
- The applicant needs to provide either:
- - a valid Czech passport, Czech national ID or a valid certificate of Czech citizenship (issued not more than one year ago).
- - an expired Czech passport or Czech national ID (issued after 1.1.2014 inclusive)
- - an expired Czech passport or Czech national ID (issued up until 31.12.2013 inclusive) AS WELL a certificate of Czech citizenship (issued after 1.1.2014 inclusive).
- - For children born overseas after 1.1.2014, a certificate of Czech citizenship or Birth Certificate issued by the Zvláštní matrika v Brně needs to be presented.
- If the applicant's passport or Czech national ID is not valid and was issued before 31.12.2013 and the applicant does not fall into one of the above mentioned categories, they need to apply for the certificate of Czech citizenship first. The application for a Czech passport can be submitted only after the certificate is issued.
- While applying for the Czech passport, fingerprints of applicants older than 12 years are collected.
- !!Important information regarding passport photos: applicants DO NOT have to bring their own prepared passport photos when lodging an application for a Czech passport anymore. Instead, applicants will be photographed by a consular officer of the Consulate General on site when lodging their application!!
The fees for applying for a new passport must be paid at the time of submitting the application, by CREDIT/DEBIT CARD.
