The new bidirectional, fully low-floor trams will be 38 metres long and accommodate up to 186 passengers, including 80 seated passengers. The vehicles will be equipped with advanced safety technologies, including an automatic anti-collision system and an intelligent speed limiter. The design is based on the proven tram platform already operating in Tampere, Finland, that is adapted to the demanding Nordic climatic conditions.

The trams will form the backbone of Uppsala’s new public transport system. The planned tramway network will comprise approximately 17 kilometres of track and 22 stops, connecting Uppsala Central Station with the university campus, the hospital and the city’s developing districts. Under the current timetable, the first trams are expected to be delivered and tested in 2028, with regular passenger services scheduled to begin in 2029.

The success of Škoda Group is another important example of Czech engineering and innovation contributing to the development of sustainable mobility in Sweden. This is not an isolated achievement. Last year, Škoda Group also signed a contract to supply trains for Saltsjöbanan light rail line in the Stockholm region.

This latest success further demonstrates the growing confidence of Nordic partners in Czech companies as suppliers for major infrastructure projects. At the same time, it contributes to the continued strengthening of industrial cooperation between the Czech Republic and Sweden.
