Ambassador of the Czech republic in Bulgaria conveyed his condolences to the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria on the death of former president Jimmy Carter

Mr. Miroslav Toman, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Sofia personally recorded his heartfelt condolences in the Condolence book, which the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria opened in memory of the 39th U.S. president Jimmy Carter.

His Excellency Mr. Miroslav Toman expressed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and the entire American nation on behalf of himself and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bulgaria, and added „For us, Jimmy Carter will always be remembered as a peacemaker of great personal integrity and courage. A true example of a statesman and public servant.“

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, a U.S. Navy veteran, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and the first U.S. President to reach 100 years of age. Some of the most significant achievements the world will remember President Carter for are the Panama Canal Treaties, the Camp David Accords, and the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. Undoubtedly the biggest challenge during President Carter's administration was the 1979 hostage crisis when 52 American diplomats from the U.S. Embassy in Iran were held hostage. In recognition of his ‘untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights and to promote economic and social development’ Jimmy Carter was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
