Ambassador Miroslav Toman met with the Bulgarian Minister of the Interior

Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria in the field of home affairs has traditionally been very strong. However, there is still room for the development of new opportunities. This was noted by the Czech Ambassador Miroslav Toman and Minister Daniel Mitov during their courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Interior.

The Czech diplomat took the opportunity to congratulate Minister Mitov on his recent appointment. He also welcomed the long-awaited full integration of Bulgaria into the Schengen area, which was one of the main priorities of the Czech EU Presidency in 2022. In return, Minister Mitov thanked the Czech state for its significant assistance in fighting the forest fires that Bulgaria faced last summer.

Both participants of the meeting highly appreciated the active contacts between the respective agencies of the Ministries of Interior of the two countries. Examples of such cooperation could be the visit of representatives of the Bulgarian Border Police to Prague last year and their participation in the Future Forces exhibition, or the joint Bulgarian-Czech patrols, which for many years have helped to maintain public order along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast during the tourist season. In this context, Minister Mitov underlined his readiness to further develop professional contacts with the Czech Republic, especially those related to fighting organised crime and illegal migration, effective border management, firefighting and civil protection.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Toman and Minister Mitov agreed to continue the joint discussions on issues of mutual interest.
