Performance of the opera Carmen by a Czech soloist of the State Opera

On the weekend of December 10th and 11th, the opera Carmen was performed by a Czech opera singer in the title role in the presence of Czech Ambassador Gustav Slamecka at the King Sejong Center for Performing Arts.

The representative work of the French composer Bizet, first presented to the Czech audience at the Estates Theatre, has since enjoyed great popularity and countless reprises, depicting a story of love, jealousy and passion in the lively setting of the Spanish city of Seville. Despite an initial cold reception of the Parisian public after its premiere in the late 19th century, the opera found its way into the hearts of many foreign audiences and critics, and became very popular with the Korean audience as well.

 

Thalia Prize nominee, mezzo-soprano Veronika Hajnova, who works at the Prague National Theatre, won over the audience with her breathtaking portrayal of the role of Carmen in a performance conducted by the winner of numerous competitions, Jiri Mikula, chief conductor at the Moravian Philharmonic. The performance of both Czech artists left a strong impression and a received positive feedback from the local media as well.
