
YONGIN – gift of Czech books to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Korea Jaroslav Olša, jr. presented a gift of more than 300 books by Czech writers and/or on the Czech Republic, its culture and history to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. It was officially received by HUFS´ Vicepresident Lee Hyune Hwan in presence of a group of professors of the Dept. of Czech and Slovak studies which have been established in 1988.
Book gift contains mainly of books published in Czech language, but also a collection of books on Czech history, politics, literature, art and culture, and translations of Czech booksinto English and Korean. Its core is a very complete collection covering the whole history of Czech fantastic literature, from its beginnings in the late 19th century until recent bestsellers. This gift will enlarge already a very rich collection of more than 3,000 Czech-language books kept at the HUFS´ Yongin campus library.
In his accompanying letter, Ambassador Jaroslav Olša, jr. mentioned the interest of Czech government in supporting studies of Czech language abroad. And the special interest goes also to only a few places outside of Europe, where the Czech language is being taught (as of today, Czech-language programmes outside of Europe do exist only on universities in Japan, China, North Korea, Mongolia, India, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Egypt, United States, Canada and Australia).
