SEOUL – Václav Jirásek photographs at Czech Centre Seoul

Selection of photographs by Václav Jirásek, who is considered to be one of the most distinguished contemporary Czech photographers, is now on show at Czech Centre Seoul and runs until May 4, 2014

The exhibition consisting of photographs ´made in last two decades were selected by author from his series “Narrative – Mystique”, “The Infection,” and “Industria.” It is held at Czech Centre Seoul, Castle Praha Building, 4F, Seogyo-dong 395-19, Mapo-gu (http://seoul.czechcentres.cz/cs/en/about-us/contact/). It was officially opened by H. E. Mr. Jaroslav Olša, jr., Ambassador of the Czech Republic and in presence of Mayor of Mapo-gu.

Václav Jirásek was born in 1965 in Karviná, Silesia Region and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. He is one of the founding members of the artistic group „Brotherhood“, with whom he had co-exhibited his works anonymously. Since 1994, he has worked on photographs without thematic specification. The common theme of his works ranges from mystery, manipulation, kitsch, mask, irony, decadence to recycled arts. His works were presented on many solo and group exhibitions not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. Some of his photographs had also been included in the several photography collections in Europe and the USA. Jirásek’s works had been already introduced in Korea in 2011 during a group exhibition of Czech and Slovak contemporary photographs under the title „ Post-Avantgarte Czech & Slovakia’s Contemporary Photo Art Works”.
