BUCHEON – PiFan to show the best of Czech fantastic film animations

Very unique and special selection of Czech science fiction and fantastic film animations is to be screened at Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, No. 1 Asian genre film festival.
Two feature films and ten shorts made by the best Czech animators of all generations are to be screened as a special „The Classic Czech Animation Collection“ at Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) from July 19 to 28, 2012. Some of these are rarely seen in Korea masterpieces – such as exactly 50 years old puppet science fiction film Cybernetic Grandmother by a master animator Jiří Trnka. The selection features all the big names of Czech animation: Karel Zeman, Břetislav Pojar, Jan Švankmajer and many others.

This special programme was Initiated by our embassy, accepted by PiFan´s programmers, and finally selected by Czech film critic Michal Procházka and present the very best from the long history of acclaimed Czech animation. There is now a tradition of presentation of Czech genre films at PiFan: famous Czech director Juraj Herz participated at its very first issue in 1997, a small section of Czech science fiction cinema was presented in 2009 and two years later, Czech Ambassador to Korea Jaroslav Olša, jr., who is also an expert of science fiction and fantasy, was appointed the member of international jury of PiFan´s main competition, Puchon Choice.
