Founding Idea and Aims

    This Competition pays tribute to the memory of the great composer Antonín Dvořák and his musical achievements, and seeks to discover young and talented composers, raising them to inherit the musical legacy of the great composers. In addition, it seeks to aid the newly discovered composers in terms of compositional-entrusting, recording and concert for their continued development.


Information

   A.   Hosting and Management

 The competition is divided into 1st and 2nd rounds under thesupervision of the competition committee.  The 1st round will be held at the steering committee in Seoul, S. Korea where the candidates will be judged on the basis of their applications and compositions. The judges will consist of respectable composers and scholars. The Competition committee will select 24~36 participants to advance to the 2nd round. The results will be announced on the homepage and participants will be notified by mail and/or e-mail.
   The 2nd round will consist of those participants who were selected from the 1st round and will be held over a period of eight days at the Prague Conservatory (where the composer Antonín Dvořák worked as a composition professor and then director) in Prague, Czech Rep. The judges will be the same in both the 1st and 2nd rounds.


   B.   Division of Participants and Composition Categories

   This competition is open to young composers from around the world. Participants are divided into two groups, juniors and seniors. The junior group consists of those aged 18~23, and the senior group consist of those aged 24~33. Competition categories include genres of music spanning from classical to modern traditional music (sixteenth century style – twentieth century style) and includes no restrictions in regards to instrumental or vocal works. However, electric and microtonal music will be excluded as a rule. All compositions must be done on the staff(five-line) sheet music.
