Delegation of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic presented cutting-edge Czech solutions in the field of space technologies in Korea

In order to establish cooperation with the recently established Korean AeroSpace Administration (KASA) and to help Czech companies present their solutions to potential Korean partners from the ranks of government institutions and business, a delegation of nine Czech entities visited South Korea at the beginning of April under the auspices of an economic diplomacy project funded by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic.

According to the latest data from the Korea Association for Space Technology Promotion (KASP), the size of the Korean space industry in 2024 was estimated at USD 3 billion.  For 2024-2025, KASA plans to focus on building a robust space ecosystem, and key areas will include autonomous exploration of the Moon and Mars; commercial satellite constellations for high-speed communications; or perhaps reusable transportation systems. Currently in high demand are solutions such as: Earth observation satellites for disaster management and climate monitoring; broadband satellite services (LEO constellations); lightweight satellite platforms using edge computing; small launchers and reusable launchers and, last but not least, secure Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. International trends estimate a 44% increase in satellite production worldwide between 2022 and 2031 and more than 50% growth in payload services. Korea is expected to adapt to these trends, targeting: VLEO satellite deployment and services; development of reusable launch vehicles; deep space exploration; microgravity-based space manufacturing; and dual-use (civil-military) satellite applications.

The delegation of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic led by the Director of the Department of Intelligent Transport Systems, Space Activities and Research, Development and Innovation Václav Kobra was accompanied to Seoul by representatives of our major companies under the Czech Space Alliance and Brno Space Cluster. In order to find as many synergies as possible with potential local partners, the embassy in Seoul facilitated meetings for the Czech entities both with important companies from the private sphere in the framework of the B2B business forum held in Seoul, and with representatives of the Korean government in the form of KASA, KASP and Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) in Daejeon, an important city for the Korean space segment. There were also a number of excursions to important scientific and production facilities of this advanced sector.
