Visit of the Czech Ambassador to Daejeon and Lecture at Chungnam National University

H.E. Ivan Jančárek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Korea, visited Daejeon in June 2026 and delivered a special lecture at Chungnam National University under the title “Czechia: A Strategic Partner in Central Europe.” The lecture was attended by approximately 100 students and faculty members and was held in an atmosphere of strong interest, providing a meaningful opportunity to deepen understanding of Czechia and the Central European region.

In his lecture, the Ambassador introduced a wide range of topics, including Czechia’s history, culture, and its political and economic background, as well as its role within the European Union and the Schengen Area. He emphasized that Czechia is an important strategic partner of Korea and explained that the two countries have maintained a strategic partnership for more than a decade. He highlighted the significant potential for expanding cooperation in various fields such as education, science and technology, and advanced industries. He also identified key areas for future cooperation, including nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and batteries, along with exchanges of talent. At the same time, he stressed that younger generations play a crucial role in advancing bilateral relations and encouraged students to actively explore opportunities for study and research in Czechia.

Following the lecture, a lively Q&A session took place, demonstrating the high level of interest and engagement among students. In addition, the Ambassador held meetings with the President of Chungnam National University and senior officials, including the Office of International Affairs, to discuss in depth ways to further expand educational and research cooperation between Korea and Czechia. This visit served as an important opportunity to review the outcomes of joint research and academic exchange built upon the agreements concluded in 2024 with Charles University and the Czech Academy of Sciences, and to further develop future directions for cooperation.

The program also included a visit to “Sungsimdang,” widely recognized as a leading example of regional economic revitalization in Daejeon. The bakery is well known for its management philosophy rooted in sincerity and strong local values, which has earned the trust of the community and contributed to regional development. The Ambassador had the opportunity to directly observe how such value-driven business practices positively impact the local community, leaving a strong impression.

Overall, the visit to Daejeon provided a valuable opportunity to experience both the city’s dynamic academic and research environment and its unique regional character. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul will continue to promote exchanges of this kind and further strengthen cooperation between Korea and Czechia in the fields of education, science and technology, and culture. The Embassy also expresses its sincere appreciation for the warm welcome and cooperation extended by the city of Daejeon.
