On March 11, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul co-hosted a seminar with the Sejong Institute and the German Embassy, focusing on Europe-Korea strategic cooperation in an era of geopolitical shifts. Ambassador Ivan Jančárek opened the event with a congratulatory speech, emphasizing the importance of deeper collaboration.
The EU and its member states have long been close partners to the Indo-Pacific region, with the Republic of Korea (ROK) being one of its four key partners alongside Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. With Indo-Pacific Strategies published by the EU and five of its member states—France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Germany, and Czechia—this conference explored their evolving approaches, especially in light of shifts in U.S., Chinese, and regional foreign policies.
Discussions centered on:
- The development and future direction of the ROK and EU Indo-Pacific Strategies
- The resilience of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy amid potential political shifts
- The role of the EU and its member states in South Korea’s strategic thinking, especially under the Trump presidency
We would like to thank all experts and participants for their valuable insights.
