On Thursday, October 12, 2023, a meeting between Minister Lipavský and the leadership of the Czech Volunteer Team, which participated in the 25th World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum, took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Jamboree took place August 1 - 12, 2023 in the Republic of Korea.
"Today's meeting was very pleasant and I was happy to remember the time when I, myself was a member of the scouts. It is an organization with a rich history based on values, cooperation and helping others, which are qualities that are more than necessary in today's dynamic world," said the head of Czech diplomacy.
This year's Jamboree took place under very dramatic circumstances. Organizers fought flooding at the camp site just days before the event, high temperatures at the venue and tropical storm Khanun.
"I am proud that despite of the extremely challenging conditions, caused by tropical storm Khanun, the leadership of the Czech contingent was still able to represent the Czech Republic at such an important event. You have become scout diplomats in a way, and I am grateful for that," thanked Minister Lipavský's entire team.
In his speech, the head of the Czech expedition, Radomír Švihel, expressed his gratitude for the support from Minister Lipavský and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and especially the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Korea for their contribution. "The Czech Embassy in Seoul was present during our whole expedition from the very beginning till the end. Thanks to their help we managed to overcome all the obstacles that this year's Jamboree prepared for us," said expedition leader Švihel.
Minister Lipavský handed the scouts correspondence in digital form, which was found in the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, concerning the founder of scouting, Robert Baden-Powell. In 1929, Mr. Baden-Powell received the highest Czech state award, the Order of the White Lion, from President T. G. Masaryk for his achievements. The minister also handed over a photo book with pictures taken during the evacuation of the scouts to the Korean Military Academy in Seoul, the photos were taken by the Nowon Mayor's Office.
The World Scout Jamboree is an event organized by the fifty-million-member World Scout Organization. It is held once in four years, each time in a different country. Girl and boy scouts use the experience from the Jamboree in their home units and thus support the local activitis of scouting in the Czech Republic.
