25th of November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day also marks the annual campaign organized by UN Women - "Orange the World - 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence". The campaign ends on International Human Rights Day on 10th of December. As part of this campaign, the staff of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul expressed their support for all women and girls.
According to the latest global surveys published by the WHO, nearly one of three women over the age of 15 has been subjected to physical or sexual violence at least once in her life, either by her partner or another person. For this reason, the "Orange the World" campaign is a reminder of the need to continue to combat violence against women and girls, to spread stories of success in the fight against such violence and to support women's and girls' leadership at local and global levels.
This year, the theme of the Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is "Orange the World: End violence against women now!", with orange being the traditional colour of the campaign. For this reason, Embassy staff commemorated this day with a symbolic photo shoot wearing orange face masks.
